Title: seeking accurate information re GD 1982-08-08
Post by: rocksuitcase on February 06, 2016, 11:33:19 AM
I am going through my masters and finally taking as many of them off cassette as possible courtesy of the kind and great raoulduke as he loaned me two Nakamichi decks to do so.

I am currently working with 1982-08-08, Alpine Valley WI. There are only three copies on LMA, all of which are SBD variations (one is from Tim Wise who usaually has wonderful AUD's.)
each of the LMA copies show at drums Zakhir Hussein was a guest of Mickeys and came out to play with he and Billy. My tape originally had his name written in, as I believe that is what we were told at the time.
years later, a friend of mine took most of my masters and carefully copied them all onto his Nak MR-1 pro decks and claimed that the GD Deadbase, later the Compendium said the drum guest was Hamza el Din.

In the comment sections of each SBD most folks say it was Zakhir Hussein, but one person in 2014 says it was Hamza el Din.

I can't locate my Deadbase, can anyone confirm for me?

BTW, my tape lineage is: Master: Nakamichi 300 guns with NAK 300 100 feet from stage|5 feet up|15 feet ROC-Right front Corner SBD
>>Nakamichi 550 >>Sony TCD5M 2nd in line; Maxell XLII 90, Dolby B on
Transfer: Playback: Nakamichi LX-5 -> Tascam DR680 @ 24/48

I was patched out of Frankie Streeter and we had incredible fun at this show!

DB-X, DB-XI and Taping Compendium v2 all list Zakir Hussein; no mention of Hamza in any of them.

< also Grateful Dead: The Illustrated Trip states: "On Sunday, Zakir Hussein, Mickey Hart's longtime friend and Diga musical partner, adds his tabla to "Drums" and "The Other One" - his only performance with the full band." >

OK, thanks. I wonder if any of the interview books might have further confirmation- Like Mcnallys Long Strange Trip?
I guess I'll go with Zakir in the show notes.

Try some of the fan boards, you could probably find an eyewitness to confirm

well I was there taping and the word was Zakir Hussein, but my buddy who is the "completist" did the copies and said it was Hamza el Din which I thought came from Deadbase.
on the LMA, only one out of several who attended said Hamza, but his entry was dated 201 or later, so I'm calling it Zakir and finishing the damn processing!
Thanks for sure.
