Title: Good coax cable, Hosa is crap
Post by: jessedscott on May 21, 2003, 11:22:39 AM
Tghinking about getting just a good monster cable from Rat Shack, my hosa coax is not to great, sometimes my D8 says no input, sometimes it gets the signal? WTF, can't things just work? Patience.....Anyhow what do you all suggest?

I've never had any troubles with my Hosa.  I also haven't had any trouble with the Radio Shack digi coax cable - unlike most things RS, this thing is a tank.

The problem might not be the cable itself, but it's definitely the first thing you should test by swapping out.

Check your 7pin. I have a Hosa & MC & never have any problems with them, BUT those 7pins on the other hand sometimes have a mind of their own, heh ...

Are hose cables directional.  I have some signature cables that are directional.  It'll pass signal to a d8 one way, but the other way, its hit or miss.

Do you happen to know the Rat Shack number of that cable?

FWIW, I believe this is for the 12' cable.  They also make a 3' cable, but I don't know the part # for it.

When I need coax digital I use one of 2 MIT AVT1 coax digi cables I use in my home hifi rig.  Nicely built, sound great, and have locking RCA's; great for field use!!

I use AudioQuest VSD-2's and AudioMagic Presto II's as coax cables. Never had a problem getting/sending signal with either one. I did have problems with my Hosa and Monster coax cables though....could have been the specific cable, so I won't knock either, as cables, in general, are touchy and can get very expensive. Often overlooked IMO....just like speaker cables. Thanks....Jason

yeah, when you have 3-4 grand in components, it is a HUGE payoff IMO to have quality interconnects...... 8)

Thinking about getting just a good monster cable from Rat Shack

I would steer away from the "Monster" cable. Out of all the cables I've used, the monster has given me the most problems when trying to "lock" to a signal (they're also a bitch to get out of my p1, which can't be safe). I have never used the Hosa, so I don't know what they are all about, but the Apogee, "Wide-Eye" cable has yet to give me any problems.

My $0.02

Zaolla Silverlines are great.  The locking connector is great unless you have a DA-P1, in which case, its a bitch to get in and out.  I made the decision to get a right angle rca male to female connector.  It makes things alot easier.

guys, any 75ohm video cable is the same as a "coax cable" that is repackaged by monster... my suggestion, get a 75ohm video cable that feels well made in your hands... even the layman can tell a well made cable from a crap one in his hands
