what kind of optical cable are you using and what length is the cable? Have your recordings been clean or are you getting any static?
Gary

if just going optical in- no co2 or anything like that i just use a monster opti cable thats 1/2 m long, no static no nothing :-)

I bought a rt-angle TOSlink > rt-angle miniplug from either am-dig or soundpros... the angle on the miniplug makes it much more manageable in the bag, and the right angle out of the apogee is a must!

RCA High Performance Digital Optical Cable. It's approx 2 1/2 ft long. Comes with 2 miniplug adaptors. Picked it up in the video section at Best Buy for maybe $20. Maybe even less than that. Can't remember exactly how much. Just remember thinking I was glad I wasn't dropping a small fortune like I did on 7-pins.
Sound is amazing. No interference whatsoever.

I used that one for a little while, but the TOSLink>miniplug adaptors can get a little flaky if you don't tape the bejeezus out of them from the get-go

Hmm, well I'll let y'all know if I have any trouble with mine just so we can be sure Lee didn't get a defective one. So far so good. If anyone can beat up some equipment though, it's me! ;D So far so good through about 12 shows in the month and a half I've had it. So if it survives me with the way I tape and beat up eq, it'll survive anything I reckon! Two festivals in the next two weekends, Cedar Hill (http://cedarhillfest.com) and Turtle Jam (http://turtlejam.com) ought to be a good trial by fire. Already had to flee one abruptly ended outdoor show in the middle of a massive thunderstorm that rolled in. Listen to the end of the 2003-08-03 Steep Canyon Rangers that I have up in streaming real audio on jamlive (link below) and you'll see what I mean. Keep in mind it's a soundboard tape, and you can still here that thunder boomin. Had to pack up and run with my gear for probably 250 yards to get to where my car was parked. It's only on days like those I'm glad I don't have mics! ;D
Lee thanks for all the help earlier on AIM. Not sure if this works, but I'll try it: +T

I have the $15 special from BestBuy that has these... but with about three months worth of taping I've yet to have a problem, fwiw.. Probably just doomed myself for Derek Trucks on sunday ::)
Wish they made a nice thick solid optical cable like they do coax.. the one I have seems so cheap and thin..

The Acoustic Research (I think that's the name) cables at best buy are thicker like you're talking about- a damn good cable but you still have to deal with the adaptor BS.
Joel, check the archives for the explanation on the "T's" +T to ya

Cayman, big +T for the hookup, looks like that guy has some good stuff for ultra cheap! I paid $16 for what he has for $3 +s/h.. ::) Of course i needed it that night but still :P
Might have to try the Toslink > Mini just for the price alone! Those Monster THX cables look a little sturdier for around $18..
