Title: Dedicated high / low frequency mic configs - crossover at mixdown?

I don't mean to cross-post.  Yet my response to this topic best belongs here I think, in the mics & setup forum .  It's rather more advanced mic theory oriented stuff than most of the posts in ask the tapers and I'm interested in more thoughts on this.  Please take a look and opinionate:
