Hey guys, so I'm new to the realm of SLAs and just scored an Apogee AD1K and don't want to drop $100 on a LiOn at the time being. I was poking around on the net and found this guy:

That seems to be a screaming deal for $10. 2220mah is more than I feel I'll need right now (I don't do so many festies) and it's listed at a pound and a half. Does that capacity and weight sound fishy to anybody, or have SLAs gotten significantly lighter recently. Has anybody dealt with batterywholesale.com before?
Also, how much current would I want in a charger for a battery of that capacity?

you sure this is what you want?
reason i ask is that it appears that this thing will only last around 40 minutes or so... the AD1k docs state that it draws 1150 to 1300mA, with the low voltage LED starting to flash at 11.5VDC... then when i look at a discharge curve for a "typical" SLA battery similar to this one (Yuasa NP2.3-12), that's about what i get.
one and a half pounds does seem slightly light though... that Yuasa weighs 2 lbs... and it also says the max charge current is 0.58 amps at 14.4 to 15V.
Yuasa specs can be found off of that same web page... click "Spec sheets & MSDS" then "Yuasa specs".

I ran a AD1K for years and would never run it on anything less than a 7 AH 12V SLA.
Also you may want to pick this up at a Batteries Plus store as these a very heavy and may cost alot to ship.
You will also need to pick up a charger as well.

Costs about $33
(You can pay between $15 and 40 for similar batteries - depending on manufacturer)
Charger (the one I use to charge 12V SLAs):

Costs about $60
You'll want to get a high current charger like the one above or it will take too long to charge (This charger will charge a 7.5AH battery in about 6 hours - A 750mA Charger will take about 10 hours - the 750ma Battery Tender is $30 - maybe this is ok with you)
As for Lithium ION Batteries - You may have difficulty finding a cheap Lithium ION battery that will run an AD1K for long periods of time again as it pulls alot of juice.
You will probably need a 80Wh+ battery.

for festivals i used to run two 6v sla's combined to get 12v. they were 16ah and heavy, 8lbs, so when i had one on each side of my pack it kinda balanced.
