AKG480>D8
« on: February 29, 2004, 10:58:14 PM »
After reading the discussion about the JB3 vs AD1000 it made me curious on the ADC of my D8, which has been described as inadequate. The JB3 has been described as just awful as well. For that reason I bought an AD20 to improve the sound. However because of the gain of the AD20, I have to run my mics with the switch set to -10 and have to run my level knobs at 12:00 (50 percent gain) on the AD20 to bring the levels up. Would it be better for me to just run the mics right into the D8 line in without the AD20 in the chain and the switch on the mics set to 0 (or +6?), so no preamp at all? I know it would be better to upgrade my AD20 but with a baby on the way I have to scrimp and save, and once she comes my taping days might not be what they used to be! Thanks!!!

I have no idea on your topic. Just thought I would say goodluck on the baby.

When in doubt, try it out!  But I think you'll be happier mics > AD20 > D8.
