Mac OSX.3.9 software to combine AIF files into one? (flawlessly)
« on: December 02, 2005, 04:49:43 PM »
SSIA.

Wanting to take a show that was already tracked out, recombine the files for editing/mastering work on the entire file. I had always imported all the files into performer, snap them together and work on it from there.

Problem:

I'm not sure if this is new in DP4 or some setting I can't find. I never noticed it in DP3 and have been in DP4 for only a coupel months. Today I noticed that when you import files into DP it takes the very last sample (1 single sample) and fades it to the zero volt line. You cannot hear it but it bugs me. So one shortcut would be to recombine the AIF files before importing into DP.

Make sense?

16 or 24 bit?

for 16 bit, you can just use xACT and the "join" function of shntool

for 24, just load the files up into an editor that's not DP, create a new file, and paste the 2 files into 1

The DP user group (yahoo group?, I forget, b/c I unsubscribed a while back) is VERY knowledgeable. If there's a solution within DP4, they'll know it.
Out of the game … for now?

this has worked for me clinton.  btw you want that P/O show?  sounds about like you would expect.  kinda boomy, big and verby.  I cleaned it up a bit.  you can have it any way you like it. tracked, untracked, edited, or unedited. drop me a line.

Scott, that might be the solution I'm looking for. In this case this is 16bit. I assume the join in xACT will be bit perfect. I'll take a look.

PS ever thought about a decode to SDII interleaved for xACT??  ;)

I love that program! Kudos.

actually, it may pad the end of the joined file with spaces if not cut on sector boundaries.  i forget.  if it does, i can always just add the option not to do that

as far as decoding to sdii, i can look into it

I just joined the files. I'll test by loading the full length, then on another track the seperate. Zoom in at the edit of the seperate and see what it looks like. +t's all around.

Edit:

Either it does it perfectly, or these were already aligned. checking for SBE's ahead of time will ensure a good join.

Much thanks! Gotta find out why DP is doing this now.
