another 722 question
« on: June 17, 2006, 07:09:59 PM »
So without record/pause, what are folks doing with analog cassette transfers? End up with 4 plus files and join them later?

analog cassette transfers?

[sarcasm]Brain foggy... analogue cassette.. whats that?  Oh yea... thats right.... those little plastic boxes with the two holes in the middle.  I seem to remember those from a dream a few years ago[/sarcasm]

I'd master digitally and then just run analog out of the PC.

Sorry, need to be clearer. The 722 does not puase while recording. So when using the 722 for analog cassette transfers one needs to stop the recording for each and every tape flip, creating a ton of files for one show. Well at least four anyway. So join them later with wavmerge is the only option. That was my question.

why not just do the tape flip w/ the 722 recording the whole time, and then edit the flip out in a DAW?

I still say record for the digital realm and then split for cassette in post.

It's almost like asking whats the best way to record with my new shiny toy and still keep it compatible with 8track.  ::)

Pretty sure TS is asking about recordings already in the analog realm and using the 722 to transfer them to the digital realm (emphasis mine):

So when using the 722 for analog cassette transfers one needs to stop the recording for each and every tape flip, creating a ton of files for one show. Well at least four anyway. So join them later with wavmerge is the only option. That was my question.

TS, can I recommend you a different sorftware in your PC. My suggestion would be Samplitude LE for about 49 euro (something like 70 usd). It does CD masteringen among a lot of other things.

Once you have the files in your PC, simply drag them into SAM. Then you can very easily remove silent sections and set CD markers on nice place in the material. There are functions to remove tape hiss if you want to. You can set the volume on each song and íf you care for it apply compression and eq to polish the sound further.

Samplitude will be a very nice companion to your 722 when you use that for recording shows.

One of the few downsides is that it will take a bit of work learning how to use the program. It is often that way with powerful tools, they take a bit of effort to get into.

menu / rec: take name/number / reset (hit the play button)

that should reset it to 01.
