Identify these mics, AT 853 and like mic users please look
« on: September 10, 2006, 02:49:00 PM »
Need some ts help.  I bought these mics from a friend on this board.  They were sold billed as AT 853's terminated into a 1/8" mini w/ batt box (sp bat box I believe).  So the seller calls me few days later saying that now he believes they are not AT 853's as he just picked up some 853's terminated into xlr and they look completely different.  He said he bought them off of the oade board quite a few years ago and they were billed as 853's.  I am not worried that I was sold something that they aren't, no issues on that front as I have full confidence in the seller and have done transactions with this person in the past and I consider a friend.  What I need though is help identifying these mics.  I think they could be the knock off 853's, the sp cm4's(?).  Here are some pics.  Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.  More photos of different angles can be made available if needed.  Thanks!   -Jon

My Sound Professional AT 831's aka SP CM 2 look just like this, I would say you gotta look inside to figure it out.

I like the way they sound!

Mine are moded for phantom power, which makes them even sweeter.

Yep, AT831.

By the way, a little-known fact is that standard AT853 capsules will fit these!  I've done this several times.  The AT853 caps are a bit larger on the outside, but the threads fit fine.
