good junk sale find - worth using?
« on: June 14, 2007, 01:02:55 PM »
i found one of these at a junk sale - Sony TC-WE435
its in excellent condition - no scratches at all and it came with the manual [which is odd for a junk sale]
so i bought it for $5  :) - all it needs is some new belts on both sides and its good to go

i noticed it had line inputs on the back and a recording level knob on the front - i was wondering if this would be a good machine to use in the field? maybe run a few sbd's on it. whaddya think?

Mics:
SP-CMC-19
Panasonic WM61a

Recorders:
MZ-RH910 (Hi-MD)
Sony TC-WE435 (CASS)

*Video*
Canon ZR-500 [Mini DV]
54" Tripod

I spend most of my money on gambling, booze, and women. The rest i spend foolishly.

Good find!
But why record in analog?
I have a similar deck (single, though) to digitise analog tapes.

To each his own.  I prefer pure digital without analog tape noise, wow and flutter, dealing with decks that have slightly different ips, having to make a mental note every 1/2 hour to start worrying about a tape flip and then having to freak out if there's no song break before the tape hits the 45 minute mark, etc.  Then having this happen 5 times during a normal length show, which means you can't enjoy the show because you're too busy messing around with tapes all the time.  But if you wanna go back in time and deal with all that...good on ya.

This may be true, but cassettes on a junk sale deck might not qualify as "good analog".

Now if it were a 2" tape machine, maybe...

Even a 1/4" reel to reel would be better than a cassette
