Transmission BT Client
« on: July 07, 2007, 04:39:03 AM »
Hey all... This is not really a recording question... but figured the computer section was the place to go.

I was just wondering if anyone had used the Transmission BT client.  I've heard some off hand comments saying it is great but it is still very new and early in the development cycle.  Now that I have Ubuntu setup the way I like it I don't want to mess with a new client unless it's good and stable.

i've been using it on osx - .72 has some problems resuming torrents(it will redownload the entire torrent after it the first missing file, instead of just the missing file) and some resource allocation problems if you run more than 6 or so torrents.  You cannot generate a torrent file w/ .72.

i've been running the nightlies - .80-svn(2169) has been stable for me.  i just grabbed 2190 since it looks like they may have fixed the problem w/ resuming torrents.

seeding and running multi gig torrents has not been a problem.

I've had no problems with version 0.72, but as stated by mwz you need another program to create a torrent file.

FWIW, some trackers won't allow access with Transmission. Not sure the full details, but it has something to do with properly giving ratio stats.
