Yep, the only thing that would make me happier is if they were 4022s...
Super clear, punchy, and very, very accurate. And they can handle just about anything with proper powering....
Highly recommended.

I've got a Black Crowes show (10.20.2001 Atlanta) done with 4061s>modSBM1>M1...and I swear it's one of the best tapes I've EVER heard. I think I may well have heard every mic/pre/AD combo you can put together, and this one is right at the top.

I know it's hard to believe, but I'll gladly B+P the show on disc to any doubters...

Mics, 625. DPA power supply another 125. Worth it, to my ears!

When I made this topic I saw a pair on e-bay brand new for, i think, 300, if I remember correctly. ;)

Is that right...
There's usually some Broadway jerk on ebay selling two pairs at a time, always with Lemo connectors.
I bought mine from Marc and the boyz. Now it's time to get my MPS-6010 modded by JK Labs! woohooo ;)

Armen, what is this mod of which you speak?

Matt,
Some French dude got his MPS-6030 modified by JK labs to include a switchable high pass filter (6dB/octave @ 85 Hz, which seems just about right for the 4061s) and he was super pleased with it. $150 and 10 day turnaround time for him, and he's, like, in France and stuff. I emailed JK this morning but haven't heard anything back yet.
Some might say, Armen, you jackass, why didn't you just buy HEBs? It would only cost you $80 more and it would be an all-in-one box! But I say, nah, I'll stick with the DPA setup. I'm not the biggest fan of Len's inflated prices, although he is a great guy and the workmanship on my CSB batt box is superb.
Also, I think 6db/octave at 120 Hz with HEBs is a little much for the 4061s. They don't need to be rolled that much at ALL, and furthermore, that value is accurate for Sony portable recorder mic inputs - who the fuck is smart enough to run HEBs mic in at a Tool show? Gimme a break.
There would be more adapters to deal with with HEBs, and hey, I want to do something different and cool!
Thoughts are welcome!
A

Armen,
Go for the roll mod on the MPS-6030 if you can...Although I rarely use the HEB bass roll, it's nice to have that option.

I'm breaking the SBM-1 in tonight for Anthrax and tomorrow for Death Angel. I'll let you know how it goes...

WHOA! +T for being back - gotta love that 1:1 post:ticket ratio
You would have used your roll at Ozzfest; the kick was ridiculous. You would have rolled, I'm sure. Plus, all that bass is just too much for the AD-20 pre. Bottom line.
I'm in touch with Mr. Jon (a great guy) at JK and it looks like it will happen if it's physically possible for my 6010. He said the size of the XLRs and circuitry might present a problem not present in the 6030 (1/8" out). But I'm sending him pics and waiting for DPA-USA to return my call regarding acquiring a schematic of the box for JK to work with. We'll see how it turns out.

Yeah, test that shit out! Death Angel is bustin' out a lot of shows in the Bay Area - lots of metal traders love 'em, too...
