Title: Oktava ML52
Post by: marsnic on July 17, 2003, 01:30:33 AM
I can get ML52 ribbon mics in Moscow for about $150 - Has anyone tried them? They would appear to be a steel at this price.

ribbon mics tend to be too sensitive for our application, but in the studio they are the shit

I forgot to add the Elation was formed by a guy called Dr Schriebmann. He worked with Oktava and left to form Elation. He was not happy about the manufactuing standards at Oktava and decided he could do it himself much better. He employed a small team of people to set up the company and initially if I remember correctly, they used facilities at a missile manufacturing plant at night to product the cases for their mics!!

I actually talked to Dmitry a few months ago about buying another hyper capsule for my Elations (KM201's) but the prices he quoted me for shipping to the US from Belarus were ridiculous (like $75 or $80 for a single capsule worth $175!) because of their bad experiences with the US Postal Service. I'm definitely interested in picking up another hyper so if it's cheaper for you to import them to the UK and then ship 'em to the US I'd love to go that route...

You want it, you got it! A little mutual back-scratching, if you will...
