setting up an external USB hard drive
« on: June 01, 2004, 04:39:11 PM »
In my attempt to monopolize the computer recording forum today I have yet another question.  ;)

I have an external HD enclosure for audio storage with a new never used, partitioned, formatted etc 120GB drive.  Running Win XP Pro the system recognizes the USB device but I can't see the drive to partition and format.

Can anyone tell me the procedure for setting up this drive? I've done this before but I can't for the life of me remember how I did it.

Thanks,
Joe

I finally swapted the drive into my other HD enclosure which usually houses my 80gb drive.  Aparently the problem was always with the new enclosure because XP imediatly recognized it and I was able to format the drive without a problem.

I definatly didn't remember jumping through any hoops when I set up the first enclosure.

Did the enclosure that didnt work at first finally recognize the drive that had been formatted and partitioned?

Yeah it's wierd.  After I formatted and partitioned with the old enclosure (made by BAFO) I transfered the HD to the new enclosure (made by IO Magic.)  It workes fine??  I'm confused but at least its working now.
