Wavelab 5 - No CDR Device Could Be Found?
« on: July 10, 2005, 10:42:02 AM »
I am trying to burn a DVD-A montage in Wavelab 5 and when I get to the last step and click on the "Write DVD" button (the red disc icon) to burn the disc, I get a "No CDR Device Could Be Found" pop-up.. huh???  All of my other programs recognize both of my Plextor CD-RW and DVD-RW drives, but for some reason Wavelab 5 doesn't see the drives.  Makes no sense to me.. however, I'm hoping someone out there may have an answer?  I have tried searching on the web and no luck and have clicked on every button and pull down menu I can find in the program and don't see anywhere to map to my DVD-RW drive.

help?

thanks in advance

there is a registry patch for wavelab that adds cdr/dvd devices. It is on the cubase forum or pm me and I can send it to you.

Thanks for the patch info Kyle... I grabbed it and put those files in the Wavelab folder, then double-clicked the Writer file... said it put it in my registry, then I opened the drvreg file and it shows nothing in my devices window.  So Wavelab still can't see my writers.  Any others thoughts on what to do?

I've always saved the DVD-AUDIO as an .iso file and then burned it with Nero.

I don't remember exactly how to do that, but I just figured it out on my own. If I can do it, everyone should be able to figure it out!

I'll tinker around a bit with Wavelab. If I figure out how to do that, I'll post back.

Thanks Mike B... cmc64 is going to send me a patch that fixed the same issue for him.. if that doesn't work for me, I may be going to .iso directoin as well.  Thanks again for everyone's help.

yeah...  what he said.

I had the same problem but it was worked out by updating the registry with the cubase update.  PM if there are any more problems, or do yourself a favor and buy audiodvd creator.  Then all your friends can listen to high res stuff@!11

None of the patches helped Wavelab recognize either of my Plextor drives.. what a pain.  I ended up just saving as an .iso file and buring with Nero.  I guess I'll be doing that until I can figure out how to get Wavelab to recognize my drives.  I have AudioDVDCreator, but I'm looking to burn in DVD-A format.. picked up a Toshiba SD-4960 for $79 shipped on ubid.com.  Really liking it so far.

did you try here?
If Wavelab does not recognize your dvd writer, go here:

http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=100

and update your computer's registry.

fwiw, several folks on here ditched dvd-a b/c their 4960 would not play dvd's burned in Wavelab without getting ticks at the beginning of each chapter.  I pointed a good friend in the direction of the Toshiba, which he purchased.  I later sent him a package of Wavelab dvd's and they didn't play properly in his player either.  Your best bet is audio dvd creator.

I did try that.. and no luck.  Basically you are supposed to take that zip file, CdDriver_26-05-2005, place it in the main Wavelab folder, unzip it, and then double-click on writer.reg.. correct?  When I do that, the upzip replaces files in the folder, then I double-click writer.reg, it says it updates the registry.. then I give the computer a restart and go back into Wavelab and it still does not recognize either of my Plextor drives.  I have also tried using the drvreg link, and when I open that it doesn't show any drives to select from.  It's just blank.

I was able to save my Wavelab projects as .iso files and then just burn the image with Nero.. and those seem to play just fine in the Toshiba.  I'll have to listen for any issues if I ever actually can burn the DVD-A's in Wavelab.

Thanks for the help +T

you don't have to drag the file into the wavelab folder but it really shouldn't matter...  i guess you're screwed!

it doesn't really matter in the end as nero is a fine means to an end.  Give a listen to the track changes.  The error occurs in discs burned in nero as well...  its just the author process I believe.  It doesn't really matter as unless you're in the middle of a nice segue

aren't there some PC utilities that will attempt to prevent unauthorized registry changes?  could something like that be going on, that the changes are not actually happening in your registry?

That's what I don't seem to get with all of this.. Steinberg lists Plextor drives as the preferred drives with their software.. I have two of them and neither of them are read by Wavelab... even with the patches, fixes, etc.  There has to be something I'm missing.  I'm about ready to throw down some cash for Discwelder Bronze... especially since I have the Toshiba SD4960 that may have issues playing back DVD-A discs burned in Wavelab anyway... if it's not one thing, it's always another I guess.  I can also use AudioDVDCreator.. but was hoping to do DVD-A as well.

EDIT: I just burned a Wavelab authored DVD-A with Nero and it does have those skips betwen tracks when I play it back on the Toshiba SD4960.  Looks like I will be using AudioDVDCreator, or getting a copy of Discwelder Bronze.

sorry those patches didn't work - it found my Plextor 716a no prob

btw - I had the same problem with the Toshiba - replaced it with the Pioneer 578a - works fine, flawless playback for dvd-a (but use the digi-out, onboard dac blows :P)

Has anyone had issues with playback on the Toshiba SD4960 with DVD-A's authored in Discwelder?  I'm hoping it's just Wavelab authored DVD-A's that have this issue?

there was a thread about this awhile back - I'll see if I can find it

I believe the issue with the 4960 was a buffer issue - I have tried the Wavelab dvd-a's in several players (even a JVC that said it would play dvd-a, but not dvd-r, but it did - flawlessly) - I'm guessing it is the player but what the hell do I know???  ::) ;D

I am all for budget players, but...

imo the 4960 is a pos (not that my Pioneer is much better - it is not - but it plays my dvd-a's so I'm happy)
