Topic: Need information from IEM's recording experts - want to record concert

I want to record Axls in ear mix/IEM at the Guns N' Roses shows that im going to,

IEM's were recorded at the Japan 2009, Japan 2012, Download at Donnington 2007 shows, and you can hear Axls voice clear with about 50 % of the other order the rest of the band.

I'm looking at renting a Sennheiser EW300 but not sure if its the right one, as I dont know what frequency it will be transmitted at ahead of time...

anyone shed any light?
ill be making these available online straight away once ive recorded them, so it would be good to share , anyone help out?

Under The Taperssection Forums logo there's a button called SEARCH.  Enter IEM into and see what comes up.  Most questions have been answered here at one time or another.

Most people here _WILL NOT_ talk about IEM recording because it's a pretty sneaky thing to do never mind that it sounds like crap 99.9% of the time.

Not that I know much about actually recording IEM's, you won't find too many folks that will help you right off the bat. 

Number one, if they are going to help, they probably DON'T want you spreading high and low and risking their chances/abilities moving forward.

Number two, most decent IEM recordings involve recording more than one feed.

Your best bet is trying to contact someone that has recorded GnR IEM's in the past AND shared them, and see if they will help you.

You're far better off, getting a basic AUD MIC setup and recording that way.

I have had the chance to learn how to do it, and the only reason I would ever tape an IEM is to get soundchecks. I wouldn't bother with doing an actual show, unless I was outside the building.

There's the story of a famous taper here, that was so obsessed with pulls that he parked his van outside the venue in the afternoon when the band was doing sound checks, and found the frequency for one of the monitors that was decently balanced, then returned that night to make the pull.  Bear in mind that each musician has his own mix on a different frequency so unless you have a headset and are pretty far the actual music, you won't be able to pick up which frequency is the most balanced, so it is hit and miss.  There may be a half dozen or more mixes. 

I think you have to have mulitiple units and multiple tapers recording multiple mixes to make a stab at it.

A high end audience rig is the better way to go.

Lots of folks will help you at dime . Just fyi . Look around for u2 pulls .
Then look at the people who comment. Thats what a friend of mine did .
Hes great at it now but i know nothing about it. just basic .

I think you should hear some U2 IEMs that have surfaced from their latest tour. Our mate Hoserama, who has posted above me, might know what I'm talking about. Perfect IEMs with close to 0 interferences and a sound quality easily comparable to a soundboard feed (which, depending on the band and venue, might be much harder to get than an IEM feed).

what I meant was, I tried contacting the site through there contact form, but it wasn't connecting to the server,

p.s if anyone wants to talk about recording IEM's in private, please message me, im happy to provide the person who helps me with the recording  and  have it remained uncirculated so at least some value can be passed on to anyone who can help out

i have never done it but I know a little bit about it. The first thing you will need is the correct monitor followed by the freq
Start with if sennheiser is correct then work or the freq whichever member you want uses and go from there. It will prob be hard to do as a one shot thing without some outside info
It would prob be worth putting the rental money to a small rig you could use over and over

Ps keep in mind that if the band knows and cares there is a good chance they changed gear/freq
