Just wondering if its worth the money to get this as a backup setup...

The Tascam DR-05 is  widely available for $90-$100 online--including at SoundPros. It depends on whether you want the in-ear mics. I don't know anything about those mics, sorry.

Actually I'm more curious about SoundPro Ghost Hunter 3, which claims to still have the Roland R-05 as part of the package.  It's about the only place I've seen online still offering the R-05.

From early reports here it looks like the Roland R-07, which replaced the R-05, has idiotically removed Line-In for an Aux function that goes through the internal mic preamp and can't handle a hot input. The R-05 was about $200; at $299 you're paying $100 for the in-ear mics.

So if you had a use for the mics, or wanted to sell them off afterward, you could still grab the R-05, which was widely praised.
