having trouble getting my Audiophile 2496 card to work using ASIO drivers in Foobar2000.  I've added the ASIO.dll to Foobar and have selected the 24bit playback option.  However I can't get the card to work when I change the output from waveout to ASIO out.  HELP!

is everything set properly in the maudio control panel..? there is an ASIO box there, too...

fwiw - i use the standard waveout ap2496 spdifout option for foobar. no need for the asio here - and i havent heard a reason why its use would be preferable, as the ap2496 does not resample...

the asio is a big deal for cards that autoresample...

but i have got it to work, and iirc, it there is an asio switch in the maudio panel somewhere...

edit:

actually i think it is os/soundcard combo that nmakes the asio plugin the way to go. with win98, the waveout does the trick for me (directsound doesnt work so well with win98)...

but i have been running my config for years, so i havent messed with it in a very long time...

I was under the impression - from a previous post on this forum - the audiophile was not bit perfect unless using ASIO drivers.

that's news to me - maybe i have been enjoying non-bit perfect music all this time :P

+t chris.

thanks.

i mostly listen at 16/44 or 48, but the next time i sit down with a 24bit source, i will make sure to use the asio plugin...

"I know for a fact though that it will not output true 24bit audio w/o
the use of ASIO drivers, and that limits you on playback to more
high-end audio applications only.  no juke-box action."

macdaddy.. where do you see an ASIO box in the maudio control panel?  I don't see one with mine and I have the latest version and latest driver .. Delta_WDM_5.10.0.5051

I too am having the same issues trying to get my Audiophile 2496 to use the ASIO driver for 24bit playback.  Are you guys using this driver?  foo_output_asio(dll).dll  .. from this site?

http://www3.cypress.ne.jp/otachan/

and if so, which one?  normal, SSE, SSE2, SSE3???

Very confusing stuff.

thanks

lotsa threads on this one - maybe brian or m0k3 can merge this with the thread in the playback forum, as there is good info on both...
____

now is as good a time as any - i will (tray and) get the asio setup and running, and will report back soon...

well some success.  I've gotten ASIO to work with WaveLab so it isn't an Audiophile 2496 issue, it's a Foobar2000 issue.  I still can't get Foobar 2000 to work with an ASIO output......porgress is a good feeling.

glad you have had some success - like i said, i had the asio working with the card years ago, with winamp 2.x (before peter left nullsoft and wrote foobar)...

reading throught the thread i linked to - try 24bits padded to 32 bits. apparently 32 bit outpt does the trick. but that sounds worse than the wave out option...

weird, I can get foobar to play when I set it to 24 bit padded to 32 but I can't get any volume?  Also, it only plays when I use the foo_output exe dll

so frustrating...

Is anyone having success using ASIO with Foobar2000?  If so, what are you using?

Alright so I finally figured this stuff out...great way to spend a whole weekend.  Here's what needs to be done - at least what worked for my setup.

Download and install the ASIO_dll exe driver from here:

http://www3.cypress.ne.jp/otachan/foo_output_asio(exe).html

Copy the SSE3 version driver to the components folder under Foobar2000.

In Foobar set the output to ASIO exe, then change the settings for the ASIO exe driver for the following:

Process Priority: Realtime
Thread Priority: Time Critical
Buffer Size: 63
Shift Output Channels: 2

Under the Playback settings change the output data format to "24 bit fixed point padded to 32 bit", you'll need to check the box to the right labeled "show all options" to bring up the correct data output format

I love pc's... :P

the sse instruction set is specific to your processor. the normal one should work for you , too...

so with the audiophile, you need to set the 24 padded to 32 for it to work. does this work with 16 bit files, too, or do you have to set to 16 padded to 32...

i sam you post that kernel streaming worked fine for you - di you ever get an answer as to whether that is bit perfect..?

+t for all the effort...
