Title: Shock mount for ck91 actives?
Post by: acidjack on July 02, 2009, 12:32:59 PM
I've got some ck91 actives on the way, and need a stand-mounting solution.  I've read the prior posts I could find but they didn't completely answer my question.

I already have a Sound Pros standard T-bar.  It seems to me the easiest thing to do would be to get some shock mounts and mount them to the t-bar.  I see this mount on Sound Pros site; looks like a good price.  http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-SHM-5   It says the minimum diameter is .5"  The ck91 diameter is listed at .7, so on that front, it should be fine, I think - right?  I'm worried that the caps may not be "deep" enough, if that makes sense.

I read the prior posts about making a homemade kwon bar.  Honestly, I don't have much room to work with in my apt and am not very handy, so I'd be a little worried that I'd screw that up... Also, if these mounts work, they're not too costly, and if I changed mics in the future, they'd still be good to go.

Any thoughts/other options?

If you wanna PP me 10 bucks, I will make and ship you a homemade kwon bar w/PVC. I will make it to where u can achieve NOS & DIN. After that u will just need a shure donut or something similar. That is how I used to run my 391's. It ain't the prettiest, but it works like a top.PM me if you are interested.

The Rycote InVision (http://www.rycote.com/products/families/invision/) shockmount will be perfect.

The INV-7 would be the one (unless you are running it on a remote cable).

this thread sure looks familiar, like I had posted this same response to it already.

Anyway, look here to find a DIY job to mount some actives. Different mics in the pictures, but you get the idea

I made something real similiar to what you see in those photo's for my ck91 actives. What I used for the straight bar is 1/2" cpvc tubing, then along with (2) 45 degree angle guys also of that same cpvc tubing. Make sure the pieces fit each other before you leave the store though. The cost at this point is around $2-3, from your local hardware store.

With this approach, you are making a Tbar for those caps, from there you can get a shock mount to hold the tbar. The Joe Meek mount can do this, or the Shure donut can do this for starters. I'll post a pic of my actual setup if you want to see it.

That mount John W posted about could work, might be a bit overkill for this though (thinking low pro that is)

What clips are you using on the 460's? I have a bar but Id like to get something like those clips that would fit my ck91 actives.

I don't run 460's if your referring to me, I'm just posting other peoples pics that I've found on this site
