Core Sound Binaural + Nomad Jukebox?
« on: April 30, 2005, 03:52:31 PM »
Hi taper folks, I'm relatively new to taping (but have done a few more or less successful attempts with MD & a borrowed sony mic).
I've searched around, read the NJB3 faq, etc., but still have a few questions I hope someone can answer.

Now I'm looking to buy a taping rig, but my budget is kinda limited. I've understood that the Nomad Jukebox 3 is a great thing,
and will probably buy one when i can afford it. It suits my needs perfectly, and in case of stealthy needs, it can be concealed as
"just an mp3 player", at least in this town...  But then I'll need a mic. I know the Core Sound Binaurals gives great recordings,
esp. at the relatively low price. I've heard a lot of shows taped with Core Sound > MD (and sometimes DAT).

So:
a) My mic-budget will most likely be around $200, max $300.
b) I'll probably be mostly taping taper-friendly bands, but the stealth option of the core sound mics is nice to have if some big star
comes to town, or if taping at a un-taperfriendly venue, or whatnot. (I live in a city in Norway, most local bands won't object to
being taped, but if some big shit shows up, or at certain venues, stealth taping might be necessary.)

So
- will the core sounds work nicely with a NJB3? If I've understood what I've read so far I'll need a battery box at least,
but how about a preamp - will that be needed? Anything else?
- or can you recommend any other mic, in that price range, and preferably (but not necessarily) stealthy? (And which will
cooperate with a NJB3)

Thanks for any help!
