Anti-Phase: Bad? How do I eliminate it?
« on: December 14, 2006, 10:24:46 PM »
I'm familiar with the concept of phase and know that it's bad for 2 sources to be out of phase, but I'm doing some stereo imaging examining of one of my mixes that uses 3 mic-sources on 3 different sources.  In the final mix I'm noticing a lot of anti-phase using Waves PAZ Analyzer.  Granted I'm panning the stereo sources L & R, but what is causing this much anti-phase and is it hurting my mix?  What can I do to prevent this?

If I solo the individual tracks, even when they're centered, there is still some anti-phase.  Could the house system have been at fault?

Thanks for any insight you guys can provide.

Well, hmm.  I opened a few commercial songs in my editing app and it looks like they also exhibit anti-phase much more than my tracks do.  So if the commercial guys do it, it may not be as big of a problem as I thought.  Just thought I'd post to comment about it in case anybody in the future has questions and searches :)
