I want to bring the vms02ib to a orchestral concert to stealth, I remember when I ran the Lemosax, I had to crank the gain up a bit to about +25dB and the modSBM to about 7-8. Since the vms02ib has only got 20, 30 and 40....I just want to know if it would be prudent to run the vms at higher gain to record this type of music when running with the modSBM.

when I tape my high school's chorus, choir and bands, I usually run the VMS at 30db. I run that into the R1 and use the level adjustment on the R1 to compensate for the lack of volume with some of the smaller groups.

Okay, report back from my experience yesterday:
- recorded about 18 rows back DFC in a place that olds 1,200 (I was about about two rows past half way back).
- ran the vms02ib at 30dB and the mod SBM at 7-7.5 on the dial.
- program was Mozart 'Masonic Requiem' KV477, Strauss 'Death and Transfiguration'Op24 and Schumann Op61 in C.
results are that there is noticable overloading at the most loud passages where I was peaking at -3 to -1dB (maybe a brief instance of an over). The overloading was a static like sound. Most of the program was well under -18dB. Classical music is the hardest to dial in for stealth, I think.

yeah, thanks. i too run a vms02ib, and when i have used it for stealth i usually keep it at 20db and then tape down my d8 level knob around 3-5. and that is for a typical PA, outside. good info, thanks for reporting back.
