Yesterday i brought the MMGs down to Janka's house for a spin in his listening room, which is about the perfect size for these speakers.
we replaced his VSA vr4jr's (seriously outclassing the maggies).
yet...surprisingly, they held their own in many regards.
Love that maggie presentation. one of those things that sort of grows on you. you sit down and BANG...., the music is so big and broad, almost tangible.
some things just sound so right! One some of the tracks we listened to with horns it was as though you could feel / hear the reed vibrating in the instrument. I guess thats the "blat" sound that many speakers just cant get right. It was instantly clear.
of course, the 4jrs offer TONZ of bass. they are a little overkill in the sized room they are in, but you get used to that quickly too, and miss it terribly when its gone.
the MMGs certainly need a sub to get that impact, but they never cease to amaze me.
they have to be the best thing in entry level hi-fi.
$550 brand new, 100% money back guarantee, and they will smoke just about anything out there in their price range and even give way more expensive speakers a bitch slap in what "value' is.
they sound good. they look cool. they have a special magic to them.
I once said that I'd be a maggie fan forever. then I started falling in love with huge bass output, but now i'm being lulled back into the maggie scene.
that said, I'm selling my big logans, these MMGs...and getting some 1.6qrs.
Janka should chime in w/his thoughts so that you guys can judge how fluffy/FOS I am.
