I'm not thrilled about the idea of walking around a lot, looking for photo opportunities. Instead I went to the dollar store for inspiration (ironically?). I came home with a mirror, a bag of marbles, a box of Panax ginseng extract, and holiday lights for $4 and change.
What made the experiment a little more interesting was that the lens is an old manual-focus 55mm micro-Nikkor f/2.8 that is missing all the parts which allow the camera to control the aperture. It shouldn't even work, but that's the beauty of the Nikon system.
I really like the result I got with the marbles, but the other picture, eh... I'm on to something but still have more work to do. Fun stuff... thought I'd share.
I hope everyone is having a good holiday season thus far :)

beautiful Frank! The wife will love these, she's the photog in in the family. I hope these can inspire her to think outside the box like you did. Do you have a web site?

Thanks, I appreciate that. I keep meaning to compile everything and at least put them up on Flickr... but no, sorry.
My photography improved when I figured out it's all about the light. A camera doesn't record "things," only the light transmitted, reflected, or generated by them. I know it sounds trivial if not obvious, but that idea alone helped me a lot.
