Sony PCM D100 as external mic?
« on: August 07, 2014, 05:20:34 PM »
Does anybody know if it is possible to use the Sony PCM D100 as external microphone on my Mac (for Skype talks etc.)?

The D100 isn't able to serve as an USB audio interface. Maybe it's possible to use it as external mic if I plug a cable from the "digital out" of the D100 to the "mic in" on my Mac? If so, what kind of cable would I need?

Thank you for your help!

Does your max have optical in?  If so like my MAC does then just use a mini optical to optical cable with the d100 in record pause mode set at anything other than dsd

Here is a link to a cable on eBay:http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5MM-JACK-MALE-TO-MINI-PLUG-3-5MM-DIGITAL-OPTICAL-AUDIO-CABLE-OPTIC-FIBER-CORD-/221468082089

What kind of MAC do you have?

I have a Macbook Pro 15'' (2010) and it just has a mic in. Does this work?

It should have 2 audio jacks: 1 in and 1 out

Both are combo jacks that support optical spdif

So yes

Some else will need to confirm if you can keep the d100 in record pause indefinitely

Thank you very much for your help! I've read the PCM-100's manual and it seems that the record pause is indefinitely. Can someone else confirm that? Thank you!!

Update: If I take an optical cable it works bad: there are dropouts every few seconds.
The good news: It works pretty well if I connect the D100 with my Mac with an analog audio cable (stereo jacks)!
