Post by: Tim on June 28, 2006, 08:57:02 PM
what I was convinced was a bad tube socket appears to have been nothing more than a fubr tube

I haven't listened to my stereo in 2 months :P

my neighbors are back to hating me  8)

you gots to always have some tubes lying around so you can check for stuff like that...

speaking of which, where have you been buying tubes; i am always looking for good online retailers...

glad you got your amp straightened out - listening to music RULES! (atm, i've got the cramps blasting whilst watching the draft on tv)...

I've had extra tubes but I was convinced that it wasn't the tube - I thought I had switched the suspect one around. Guess I missed something :P

still using the furutech. I don't think that was an issue though - I think I just had a bad tube. I may have done something to it when I moved?

I haven't bought tubes in a loooooong time. Nick Culbreth is the man for that

I'm stoked to be able to listen to my collection again ;D

I've been behaving recently and haven't bought any new tubes in the past two months.  :)

I regards to the tube retailers I've dealt with Upscale Audio, Tube Word and Triode Electronics in the past and had positive experiences with each.  Audiogon is another great way to get good tubes on the cheap, it's a bit more risky than buying from one of the major tube sellers but you can usually get a much better price on there.

I've not dealt with them all, but FWIW:

For anyone interested, here are some tube sources I found in my searches - no idea on selection, pricing, quality, reliability, etc., these're just places I came across in my online searching.  YMMV.

triodel always comes to mind

I miss Saturday afternoon trips to the tube store with the kids in tow.
They used to love to watch the D'Arsonval meter bounce on the tester

For my speaker setup I'm still running APL DV-563a > Prima Luna Prologue One > Magnepan MMG and for my headphone setup I'm running APL DV-563a > Singlepower MPX3 > Audio Technica ATH-W5000 / Audio Technica ATH-W11JPN.  I haven't bought any new gear in the past eight months which is a new record for me.
