New recorder needed
« on: December 03, 2013, 04:09:20 PM »
Well - I'm stuck.  I sold off my R-44 last month.  My R-09HR was stolen out of my car over the holiday weekend....so I'm looking for something new.

I'd like to pick up something small - only 2 channels is necessary.  High Resolution is a must (i.e. recording at 24/96).  I'd also like something with a digital input (S/PDIF).

Any suggestions?

661 or Sony D50/D100 ;) I think Im going to get into DSD after the new year ;) I know the D100 is PRICEY right now, but I really dont care. I WAS going to start looking for a diff preamp, but my [2] LB[OT] are the sound Im after, so Im going to upgrade recorders. Im keeping both my m10s too, but want to give DSD a try. Im going to comp 24-bit vs. DSD and if there is a significant amount of detail and sound I like, I'll buy a 2nd DSD recorder. Only time will tell tho ;)

Marantz 661

Seconded, meets the OP's requirements perfectly.  Has S/PDIF input on RCA so will accept digital signal from his V3.

Begin rant * I have issue with any products (like Sony D100) advertised as a "Pro" product that don't utilize balanced impedance inputs on XLR.  Such products are really an oxymoron, there is no excuse for a pro product not to have XLR inputs. * end rant.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm leaning the in the 661 direction.  Seems reasonably priced.

Any experience with the Oade mod on these?  I'm looking at the Concert mod for when I run my little box.

Also, can these be ran off a 9V Wally world battery similar other recorders?

Duh on all questions posed in my previous post.

I haven't bought anything new in a while.  I found the 661 thread, and the wealth of information contained there.  Once again, TS.com rules.
