I don't think the Microtrack's A/DC is as nice as the M1's, but for 24bit I'll take it.

Have you done a comparison between the M1 and the MT2496 at 16/44.1? Just curious what differences your hearing in the ADC of the MT as compared to the Sony M1.

You can also use a walmart batt and a VR box (ToddR or leegeddy), which is what I use currently ...

Do you have to get a special cable made for the walmart battery?

No direct comparisons, so it's completely unscientific (;)), but there's a "graininess" I hear with the Microtracker...like the highs aren't as smooth as with the M1.

It's certainly not a deal breaker though...my Mule recording from Wednesday night still sounds damn good to my ears, and even better in 24 bit.

Well, Round 2 with the Microtrack was last night....turned out exactly the same as Wednesday, minus the battery issue. The show was an opening gig, so knowing the show would be no longer than an hour, I said to hell with it and ran 24/96....

Came out amazingly well. Still had the issue with the levels going haywire, but luckily the peak indicator lights still work even after the levels are shot. Listening to a sweet DVD-A right now.

I'm gonna do one or two more "trial runs", if everything goes as well as the first two nights, I'm gonna start leaving the M1 at home permenantly. While I can't speak for anybody else, if M-Audio would just hurry up with this much talked about firmware update, this will be the solution I've been looking for.

Just email them kindly and ask them for the update or at least a loose firmware release schedule.
I did. If more people do it, they might get the idea.
Mention the 2GB issue, the metering, stability, etc, etc.

Did just that a few minutes ago...hopefully if enough requests come in they'll expedite their efforts.
