1992
Brüel & Kjaer, Denmark's venerable measurement equipment manufacturer, took the decision to spin off its specialist pro audio division. Sales and service of the industry-standard Series 4000 Professional Recording Microphones were outsourced to two former employees, Morten Støve and Ole Brøsted Sørensen, designer of the microphones.
Morten and Ole formed the Danish Pro Audio (DPA), and rented tiny premises on the top floor of an old school, equipped with 2 phone lines and a computer. Arriving for service, the B&K4006 mics, for several years a stock item with top studios all over the world, were repaired at Ole's house, where a dedicated Service Department had been set up in his wife's sewing room!
1998 A New Name
In 1998, DPA bought out the rights and title to the Series 4000 from Brüel & Kjaer.. To coincide with this declaration of full independence, the company effected a subtle name change to DPA Microphones.
