Author Topic: 722 line out only putting out 1 channel (Read 7070 times)

hey everyone,
i just connected the 722 to my computer speakers via the line out 1/8 inch plug and it is only spitting out 1 channel. i tried looking through the menu to see if it was somehow turned off but it looks like it is on.
i'm guessing it is a hardware issue and i need to send back to Sound Devices.

I can't remember the last time i used the line out. If I give an analog out, I ususally use the mini xlrs.

Anyone have this happen before?

Anything I should look at prior to contacting SD?

did you test the cable? was it inserted all the way?

yeah, tried to cables. also when pulling the cable out a bit to test a minute ago, it seemed to send a very faint signal to the unworking channel while cutting off the working one. certainly seems like the plug to me

don't really want to send it back but gotta do what you gotta do i guess

well that sucks. + for your troubles, it might just be a loose solder point inside the box. hope it is a less than costly fix!

i don't even really know how the warranty works for the SD things. i've never had a problem. figured i could send it in for the firewire hardware upgrade and have them look at this at the same time.

anybody have experience with the SD turnaround time?

i'll let you know what SD says. i doubt it will be a big deal since i'll combine with the other upgrades. hell, i never even did the ad-board upgrade

hmmmm....i haven't used mine in a while but it worked last time. I'll have to check mine out as soon as I get it back from a fellow st. louis taper.

I've had a RMA for a few months now and shows just kept popping up so i never had a window. I just picked up an external drive too.

thanks fozz. i will def send it in. my 1/8 inch used to work, i know. i used it to pass my buddy an analog patch prior to John making me the mini xlr cables.

i generally provide patches via my 1/8 too and it has worked fine. I have also fed some powered montiors when my DAC was out of commission

my 1/8 jack is really picky as well - if the cable isn't seated just right it it will drop a channel or add some crackle

looks like this is a much more common problem than i thought

I've never used it, and only found out about it a couple of months ago. Same thing, changing cables, etc., didn't "fix" the problem.

maybe its an issue with older 722's

same here. i needed to do it beginning of february. Now that ive procrastinated long enough, it might not get done before summer/fall unfortunately

BUT I dont really need the V2 hardware upgrade done anyway. I dont plan on running an external HDD with the 722 anytime soon since I already write to BOTH the INHDD and the CF Card slot........and since the V2 Firmware still works on 722's WITHOUT the V2 hardware upgrade, I dont see myself needing the V2 upgrade ANYTIME soon.......But I'd still like to get it done just because I'd feel safer

Maybe I should send it in this coming monday/tuesday tho. No shows for me for AT LEAST 2 weeks anyway so.......

Oh and Fozzy or anyone for that matter, how does one get an RMA Number for the V2 upgrade

Sorry for the stupid question but I have NO CLUE how to get an RMA so I can get the V2 upgrade done........

Bean just email support@sounddevices.com and tell them you name and serial number and that you want to sent it in on X date for the V2 hardware upgrade.
