Aren't there any newbie tapers out there interested in picking up a DMIC? It's a great middle of the road unit which sounds much better than the UA5 IMO. Better clarity and it sounds more like what you're recording.

Loved my DMIC, pulled some great tapes with it. I dont understand why theres absolutely no interest in these units and the UA-5 has taken over in that price range. I thought each taper prefered diff. things? ::)

I think there are two primary reasons people are going for the UA5 over the DMIC20:
[1] some people prefer the warmer sound of the modded UA5s over the crisper, cleaner, but more digital-sounding DMIC20
[2] The UA5 offers a broader feature set:
[a] up to 4 inputs for multi-mic/matrix mixes
selectable bit depth: 16-bit now, 24-bit future
[c] selectable sample rates
[d] optical out for running direct to MD or JB3
Or maybe these are just the reasons I would go with the UA5 over the DMIC20.
All that said, the DMIC20 is a solid pre/ADC and someone should go buy the ones over in the Yard Sale!!
