Post by: Colin Liston on October 29, 2008, 09:27:20 PM

Say you found a PSP-2.  Anyone know what the going price would be these days?

Is that an EAA PSP-2 or a Sony PSP-2?   ;D

$750 in good shape and i'd sell the sax or v3 in a heart beat to add a psp-2 especially behind the gefells or DPAs

I sold one to Tim a few years back for 575.00. I bought the one I have now for 650.00

Regardless I'd pay 750 for one......if I didn't already own one.  >:D

I bought one from Trew Audio about 2.5 years ago and I paid about $775 with shipping and customs fees. The pre was at Trew Audio in Canada so it cost me a bit extra with the fees. I do not remember what their original asking price was - probably around $700 Canadian. With the exception of a tiny scratch on the top panel and some corrosion on two of the screws that hold the XLR inputs, it was (still is) in mint condition. It was worth every penny. I can't imagine my field rig without it. If you have a chance to pick one up, do it before it's gone!

Here is a pic that shows the scratch and the corrosion.

yes, the PSP-2 is a transformer based pre, while the PSP-3 is not.  both are very nice pre-amps, but sound pretty different from one another.

I wouldn't sell mine period!!!  In fact if I found a used one for $750 I may by another to have a backup!  I bought mine new from Masterpiece back in Feb 01 and paid $975 + shipping.

Interesting, so the PSP-2 is more sought after.  Why the change?

not sure if psp3 was meant as a replacement as much as a different model/sound - i believe the 4 channel amp that the offer has the transformer in it - Carl Beck had one for a while, may still

Kyle, you should really replace those corroded screws if you haven't already.  Corrosion causes more corrosion.  A good hardware store should have them.  Though they could be metric round heads and those would be harder to find.  If so, I'd just go with a regular allen with a washer (assuming you have clearance).  I think there may be some dissimilar metal issues in the psp2 that contribute to corrosion.

Richard,

Thank you very much for the tip. I had always wondered if the corrosion could get worse or case damage and the last thing I want to do is muck up my favorite pre. I will get on it!

Yep still have it, the Mix2000 but would buy a PSP2 if given the chance in a heartbeat for $750

same here. $750 would be a no brainer for me

Trew audio had one in "excellent" condition a couple months ago for $375 CAD. I was a day late in contacting them about it.  That still pisses me off.

Depends on how much money I had sitting around at the time. Right now considering I just sold my Portico I would probably spend retarded money for one but if I was broke I don't really know. I think they are worth $750 since they sound so awesome with my mic but to someone else who knows. I guess what would you be comfortable paying if you found one? Anywhere in the $650-$750 range is what they have been selling for, over that I guess it's a matter of how bad do you want one.

yeah, I guess much more than $800 and it starts to seem like you're getting ripped off. They are getting a little on the old side. Either way I'd have to be damn sure it was in great condition.
