ive got a butane iron, solder sucker and forceps...
do tell
what kind of a mod will it give me,just a digi mod?
Yes, that's just the digimod.
Be sure to ground the soldering iron tip to the frame of the UA-5, the solder sucka and forceps are OK, the butane iron must be turned-down-low, to just warm enough to melt the solder, but not the traces on the board(very small and light)
It is also very small work, the resistor is about the size of a grain of rice and is surface mounted (SMT).
I prefer a tiny tipped variable temperature solder station.
If you have any scrap SMT boards to practice on, I highly recommend it.
The actual resistor to remove is described in a document online, and I think a digimod sounds pretty dang good on its own, with the right mics.
Search "UA-5 modification"
or visit Nick's site http://www.nickspicks.com/ [EDIT] Nick took it down, you may want to ask him why, he may have found something out about it.
Also, you may want to search TS.com for all of the UA-5 information here.Don't forget that this modification voids your warantee, if any.
