Whenever our central AC kicks in, or washing machine, my speakers make an insanely annoying noise like I'm plugging in a cable. It seems to be doing it even more often now, when those things don't happen. I got a UPS, but it still does it. I'm running my computer into a receiver and through an equalizer. What is the problem? It wasn't doing this a few days ago.

i wouldnt run a computer's power supply into a receiver if i could avoid it. but i dont know if thats your problem. unplug everything and start one component at a time to determine the culprit.

It's not the computer's power supply, it's an uninterruptible power supply. It's like a power strip, but with a battery in case the power goes out, I can shut down my computer. This was going on before I got that, though. Anyway, I determined, it's either the receiver or equalizer, not the computer.

Check for a loose neutral connection on your main power panel for the house. Or a bad motor cap in your ac fan motor.
