Title: New System Layout - Thoughts?/Suggestions?
Post by: Əkoostikal on August 15, 2008, 09:42:43 PM
Ok, I am planing on upgrading my playback system within the ext year or so and just trying to envision what I might want/need.

What I was thinking of doing as of now was this: Digital source (PC/CD/CVD)>Preamp>EQ/RTA>3 way X-Over>(Low, Mid, High) >L/M/H Amps>L/M/H Speakers. I guess I am seeing sort of a mini 3 way PA setup. I made a small diagram for the equipment I was thinking of using and signal flow. What I am not really sure about was the Behringer EQ/RTA. I know I don't really "need" that and I know there are other solutions to the crossover. I am not really looking to or wanting an All-In-One (home theatre) type setup. Has anyone had any luck running this gear in a home setup or is it to noisy and more suited for PA use?....... Another thing was the amps. I have one Crown XTi in there for the subs mainly for the power factor. (The pics of the mid and high amps are just for looks.....) Any suggestions for other amps that are not extremely expensive but still pretty clean sounding to drive the mids and highs would be appreciated also.

.... If I have this stuff setup all wrong please let me know, I have never really worked with much Live/PA stuff before. I just loved all the features of the 2 Behringer pieces. almost and infinite number of EQ possibilities combined with the flexibility of that X-Over made it sound like it might be worth a try. I also looked at the DBX Driverack system which is basically the same as the 2 Behringer units combined but it only went to 24/48 whereas the Behringer units go to 24/96. If anyone knows of any other "Driverack" type units I would be open to all suggestions also...... I am just really thinking out loud about this "type" of playback option. Does anyone use this at home and would it work well for that?....... Should I just stick with a HQ All-in-One unit?

TIA - Kiel

Just watch out for those Behringer units. They are inexpensive for a reason...

Well, those were my main concern...... If anyone knows of a unit(s) that will do the same thing as the Behringer pieces will, I would love some more input..... I am leaning toward the Driverack now anyway, I don't think the 24/48 limitation will be that big of a deal.
