Will these work for loud shows without any gain stage?

schoeps cmc 41's > ps-2(w/mini 1/8 mod) > edirol-r09
dpa 4021>ps-2(w/mini 1/8 mod) > edirol-r09

I see that some folks use the ps-2 w/hosa line transformers > adapter > r09/r1

Any other ideas?
