The guy in the office next door told me that you can't install a copy of XP OS on a new computer that has vista installed on it.. true/false?
-
False, you can dual boot both XP & Vista (with Vista installed first)

so is it not possible w/o dual booting?
-
Its possible but a complete pain in the ass. I tried and gave up.
-
format drive, format MBR
install XP ;D

Typically when you do a dual boot install you really want to make sure you install the oldest OS first.
Ironically, I type this from my lappy as I wrapped up my new build last night and it is humming next to me as it installs a clean XP. 7 MInutes to go...

I tries installing XP on my Toshiba laptop and there they don't even offer XP drivers for most components in my laptop. There were several devices I could not get to work properly so I reinstalled Vista.
-
I find that pretty crazy that there are hardware manufacturers that won't support XP. I have yet to see anything like that.
-
It is no different than installing any OS. It may be a bit tough if ya don't have a Full install disc from Microsoft and just have the "recovery disc's" that came with your PC/lappy.
I purchased a HP lappy with XP media center edition. Then a few months later I received a complete install of Vista premium shortly after it came out in the mail from HP. I ran it for about 2 weeks and decided to scrap it and go back to XP pro. They didn't have much of the bugs worked out and I needed a stable lappy.
I just about a month ago put Vista back on the machine after I found out they had made a few big steps with it already. So far so good. The only program I am having trouble with is Wavelab 5.

i installed a OEM copy of XP on a 2nd hard drive on my friends new Dell which could only be sold with Vista.
I got all the drivers etc loaded after some research and everything runs great in XP!
problem now is I cannot get it to boot in Vista. I tried booting from the HDD with vista installed from the Boot Menu but it says no bootable drive and then goes to XP.
Do I need to reinstall Vista?
Edit:
Should read that link before typing ::)
I repaired the Vista Boot and boots up now, thanks for the link!
