Zaolla Silver Mic Cables any good??
« on: January 05, 2004, 01:22:32 PM »
Hi Folks!
I have been tossing around the idea of upgrading my mic cables from a pair of Canare Star Quad to a pair of Zaolla Silver cables. I am currently running a pair of mod Nak701's > Luminous Audio PS > V3 > D8.

Has anyone who has owned a pair of these cables provide me with some feedback to their performance characteristics? I have been able to locate a vendor who will sell them to me for $180 a pair of 15ft. cables.

Will I notice a big improvement over the Carnare cables?? I was hoping that by upgrading to the silver cables will bring up the high end a little on my Nak700 mics. I believe Matt Hiles also uses a silver mic cable for his 700's but a differnent type of cable. I only have $200 MAX to spend on new cables and think the Zaolla's are the way to go for affordable silver cables. What else is out there in that price range??

Can anyone else pipe in and help out?? What type of improvement can I expect? Is it worth the upgrade? There isn't anything else to upgrade other than a new pair of mics (even though I have VERY happy with my old Naks, I would love to maximize the sound potential if possible).

Thanks and Happy New Year!!

Peace,
LoS

I have played with mine a little since getting them and yes, a definate improvement in the top end, as well as a refinement in the bottom end.  You hear greater detail as well.  I am toying with the idea of building some really long silver cables by myself, if you want info on that and what I am looking at, feel free to pm me.

Hope this helps, +T's to ya for uhh, upgrading!

Hey, any chance of either of you running a side-by-side comparison of Canare Starquad v. Zaolla silvers?  Would love to hear these in a blind test.

Sure thing, can I do it at home in front of some white noise or something or do you want me to do it live?

I'd prefer live, but whatever you're willing/able to do would be great.

I am willing to do both, but I don't believe I have any shows coming up until the 14th at the earliest.  I will do the home stereo first, then live second if that is OK?  What is the best way to do it in front of the stereo.  t minus 3 ;)

One of the comments that I got was that the Zaolla cables are very stiff and can be hard to keep your mics in the desired orientation, especially if you use Sabra Som shock mounts such as I do. Are all silver cables this stiff? Does anyone out there who does use the Zaolla's agree that they are overly stiff??
