Another upload/flac question
« on: February 09, 2005, 05:38:48 PM »
Alright I am getting the feel of this uploading thing but I want to be certain about a few things
First when creating md5 files for a 2 dicsc (flac) show  do I generate 1 for all of the flac files or 1 for each discs contents (just the flac files)
Second for those who use SmartFTP how do you make sure the files are in the directory?
I know how to create a folder and I thought I put the files in but when I uploaded they were not in the directory?
I think once I figure these issuses out I should be able to do this without any snags
                                 Thanks

personally, i dont upload, but have done a ton of research about file naming/seeding guidlines, and i generate an md5 for the WHOLE fileset of flacs in the folder, not by disc, bt thats just me

I'm curious if it will pass the integrity check if I don't have 1 for each disc because when I did an md5 for all of the flac files and then burned the flac discs I checked to make sure the md5 file on disc 1 would verify and it said files were missing (the files on disc 2)

Why do people make md5 files for flac shows anyway?

Flacs have the fingerprint which makes the md5 obsolete. The flac fingerprint stays the same even if you tag the files, so it's much more comfortable for the users and you can always test if those are the original and complete files.

The only reason I am doing them is because it is required to upload the archive which uses it for the integrity check.
 From the archive
"7. Please include an MD5 file for all of your uploads. Since FLAC tools do not have the ability to create one, you will need to use software like MD5summer to create one. Make sure the MD5 does not contain a line for any text files. The MD5 is what enables us to send automatic emails to you letting you know if any of the files fail their integrity test. If you use MD5summer to create your MD5’s, make sure you open the resulting MD5 and remove the top 3 lines so the fist file signature to be checked is flush at the top of the file."

it also tells you if things are missing, flac fingerprints do not :)
