Tannoy Reveal Speakers
« on: March 30, 2005, 02:20:48 PM »
Does anyone have any experience with these?
Either the active or non actives?

I need some monitors for my home studio.

I have a pair of the actives that are hooked up to my DAW. They sound pretty good, but very lacking in low-end thump. I have not added a sub, but Tannoy makes a sub that apparentally matches well with the Reveals.
My monitors are still fairly new, I have liked them so far. The actives can get quite loud. Pay attention to the included directions as placement is critical! I had to rearrange my whole DAW desk to enable a decent spot for the monitors!
I have absolutely no complaints except lack of bass, and you will find this problem with nearly every monitor in this general prioce range! Everyone reccomends the cocentric Tannoys, but they are pricey! I have heard a pair in a local studio, and they sure sound sweet. I just don't need to spend that much on my home DAW!
Hope this helps!

I like what I've heard.  Agreed about the sub.
Look carefully at 250Hz and below when you master/mix with these.
There might be a tendency to pump the bass up.

I'm probably going to get the Reveals.
I'm now trying to decide whether to get the actives or not.
I use a Parasound amp now. I'm thinking the non powered speakers would be more versitile.

+T and now it's time to think about placement and treatment of the soundspace.

My Reveal's should be there when I get home today.  :)

I love getting new gear!

Does anyone have any experience with the Tannoy TS8, TS10 or TS12 subwoofers?

enjoy Chuck!
I’ve had a few weird experiences and a few close brushes with total weirdness of one sort or another, but nothing that’s really freaked me out or made me feel too awful about it. - Jerry Garcia

Yeah, I like these speakers.
Is there a generally agreed upon spacing for near field monitors?
I know about the equalateral triangle, but is there an optimum spacing?
Right now I've got them at 46" apart, from the middle of the speakers.
