Topic: xACT trouble...

i'm trying to combine several tracks back into one track so i can redo the track splitting that was done incorrectly by someone else.  everytime i try and merge it back to 1 wav file the program just sits there and never finishes.  i've left it for over 24hrs and it's still not working.  anybody else experience this problem?  any diff software for macs that will work better?

You can use Audacity.

what kind of files are they?

i've tried it just using the audio cd and i've tried copying the .aiff files to my hard drive and combining them that way and neither one works.

is there a diff way to grab files off of an audio cd besides aiff files?  the person who made the cd named the songs like this:

1 track
2 track

instead of
01 track
02 track

so when i try and rip it from a cd it automatically reorders the files around like this:

1 track
10 track
11 track
12 track
13 track
etc

so the only way i can figure out how to do it is copy the aiff files from the cdr and rename them.  then run it through xact and merge to 1 wav, but when i try it just sits there and won't work.

xACT can do the extraction for you.  go to the "util" tab

Yeah, the best way is to extract with xACT; there's an option to rip to one big long track. That's how I always do it because 99% of the time I'd rather retrack anyway.

i have tried that but the file names on the cd are named incorrectly so when i attempt to extract using xact it puts the tracks in the wrong order like this:
1 track
10 track
11 track
12 track
13 track
etc

reburn the disc in iTunes
then try to rip it in xACT

before burning it, rename the tracks the way you want (correctly)

Just rename the files on your HD when you've extracted them
