i have heard some great tapes w/ 480's (which i own) > mod-sbm1 or 480's > v2 > mod-sbm1 ( heck, everything i've heard w/ a mod-sbm1 soundz nice and warm)......i am gonna grab one sometime soon no matter if the 722 or v3 or etc.... is out.......i've really liked my 480's w/ them even tho i run a dmic-20 w/ mine (which i also LOVE) the og all in one box!!!!! ;)

What do you like or dislike about the (mod)SBM-1, Shmurg? That's what counts. For what it's worth, my modSBM-1 likes:
[1] Nice warm, fat sound
[2] Super-easy to run
[3] Easily powered by rechargable batts (no SLA!)
[4] Super small/stealthable
[1] is listed as [1] for a reason - I love the sound of this tiny little box. I miss that warm, fat sound with my V3. I love the V3 for its transparent and detailed clarity.
What mics are you running?
-
the small size of the unit and the associated sound is its greatest plus. I argue that at the physical size and price point, it is the best a/d available. Modded that is....definitely adds alot to those stealth tapes
-
and i forgot to add how easy it is to run.....and this is a good thing when you are trying to be inconspicuous and enjoy the show!
-
nothing really not to like. I used one for awhile, sometimes wish I still had it, great sounds, super small and idiot proof when it comes to using it.
-
Iffin' you are using an SBM then make sure it is mod'ed. I highly recommend it. Best ADC for the price and size ;D
Since you already have one you know the rest + Brian hit it on the head for reasons to have one. I'll add that an SLA can add hours of enjoyment cause these things are batt. pigs.
Hopefully you have made some tapes w/ the un-mod versions...once you get the mod you be like WOW ;D glad I did it!

I was about to buy an AD-20 inbox. Should i get an SBM-1 instead?
Right now I'm running AKGc1000s>Hosa trans>D8
I used a friends AD-20 & liked the sound.
Anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks

i think you would enjoy a sbm-1 (mod or unmod) better than a ad-20. IMHO

I'm looking at one with the Oade line mod. I know I should upgrade my mics, But I cannot afford what I want right now 480s.
The SBM-1 would go better with the mics I'll purchase in the future (the 480s) as well
my current setup.
Any thoughts would be appreciated......Thanks Trey T+
-
that's really the way to do it, honestly. if you cant afford the better mics than upgrade or work on the pre or a/d that you know will sound good with other mics, and not only that- but that will actually increase the value of the pre/ad. good thinking!

KindGuy,
Look at the Yard Sale and grab Scott's mod sbm-1 ;) $450 can't be beat
-
JP T+ (now that you can get um) Thanks for your help on the soundcard issue the other night as well!
-
yes Cervin's mod sbm-1 is a steal!!!!
course so is Rabhan's AD1000!!!!!
-
What I really want is somewhere where i can get one. Wish I had one. :'(
-
im gonna have a stock sbm-1 up for sale here within the next week, you are welcome to get that and have it mod'd
-
heck I have a stock sbm-1 for sale right now!!!
-
I like the mod SBM for:
1) adds warmth in bad rooms
2) small & stealthable
3) holds its value!
I dislike:
1) The dithering scheme not as good as UV22 or the V3
2) Adds warmth in good sounding rooms, where I preffer transparency
3) Can be too warm with certain mics (that are already colored)

Ditto everything Swanny said. That's why I got rid of my last one, and why I just picked up another one. Great to have in certain situations. Once again I find myself stockpiling equipment, sitting on a mme, adk and modsbm1.
