Sure... used craigslist is a great resource.  I found my VPI HW-19 for under 300, but I also recommend some Thorens models, technics SL-1200's (a workhorse), any Rega model (the p-1 used or new might be in your budget) and the music hall line.

second vote on a P-1 if you can find it.  Great machine!  If you have to get something new find a shop that carries dennon, their basic consumer models are some of the best value out there.

If this Sansui SR-929 stays under $300, I think you'd score quite a deal.

Love my P1

Macdaddy took care of me on that one and I wouldn't give up vinyl for anything now

This sansui looks pretty decent : http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ele/679786162.html  At least to start, looks like a knock of SL 1200

If you want i'd pick that up for you and keep it till you're around here.

I think the deal is with that MMF 5 on Craigslist, I would jump on that in a second personally.
I know you like, tape for people's approval and stuff, and wave your tapes around like they're your dick...  but even you can't actually think section tapes from philips sound good.

I am enjoying vinyl so much that I am having a hard time allocating $$ for the DAC I need to buy next.
I say to myself...."self ?..., is that DAC going to make my records any cleaner ? "

Is the Thorens TD-185 a decent entry level turntable?

All the thorens tables are solid but the idler & belt tables are best. There is a great website dedicated to all thorens tables, you can find it with a google search.

I don't think they are as solid as they were once.  Modern Chinese crap with a fancy name is all you get these days.  Go get a P1!

You are correct. I meant the older tables only belt or idler not direct drive.
