ISO recs for good quality shelf system for playback gear
« on: January 12, 2006, 12:32:01 PM »
i've got a somewhat cheap shelving system i picked up at ultimate electronics (formerly soundtrack) which is better than my tv stand as all the components fit as per the shelf height, however the depth leaves a little to be desired, as well as the stability...additionally as i am going to pick up a monster power conditioner on nick's recommendation soon and probably throw my cable box on it as well (and maybe a HTPC in the future) i'm going to want to upgrade this.

can anyone recommend a good system that can be had for $200-350?  any suggestions on specifics of a unit that i should look out for on stuff i can find locally?

thanks!

I bought the Crate & Barrel for my 2 channel system in my loft.  It looks fantastic for the $$ and was very easy to assemble.  Not sure how much weight each rack supports, but it will hold my Manley pre and Musical Fidelity DAC which are both pretty heavy.

when you said "shelf system"  I thought you meant something like this:

That's tuff.
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

This guy makes very nice custom racks.  More than you want to spend, though.

After Nick's recommendation I bought the same Plateau shelf from ubid.com and I'm very happy with it.  The shelves are big and sturdy and the shelf itself is very attractive.  Here's an old picture of my setup, it isn't the best quality but you get the idea.

Just as an FYI my rack showed up about 2-3 weeks after I ordered it and if memory serves correct Nick said his took about the same time.

My thoughts exactly.  You'll agree even more when you lift the box, that sucker was heavy.

and i have carpet, so would those "feet" work, or do i need "spikes" of some sort?
