archive/fireftp problems FIXED
« on: May 27, 2008, 03:08:05 PM »
edit:   rolled back to the last version before the update and it works just fine.

the last two days I have not been able to use ftp to upload to the archive.  I updated to the newest version but nothing has changed as far as my settings etc go.  I can connect but when I try to open the parent folder to begin uploading I get this error

Quote
550 Can't change directory to /dbt2008-05-12instore.flac16: No such file or directory

works fine using smart ftp so I know it has something to do with fireftp and the archive not getting along.  any ideas?

I found this in the help pages but it didn't fix anything

If you are getting "550 Permission denied." errors when trying to login to your site you can try setting Account Manager->Connection->Initial Directories->Remote to the initial directory that you wish to view.

I used fireftp to connect to tapers.org and downloaded a show just fine.  I can not use it to download from the archive either.

I would start over and go to contribution center and task not yetcompleted. Then check it out again and try to connect w/ the ftp address. I remember the error I got before but I have done this before and it worked.

the ftp addy there (not yet completed) is the same one I'm trying to use.  so therefor it doesn't work.

Its been a while but I believe I checked it in incomplete and then checked it out again or you could delete or change parent file name and start over.

If you haven't tried the new HTTP uploader yet, this may be the time. FTP was throwing all sorts of errors at me and from what I hear things won't get much better as they're just maintaining FTP, not really upgrading or improving it.

sorry I don't remember what I did.  while uploading I occasionally see that error but everything is uploading just fine so I don't really pay attention.  I check to make sure all tracks uploaded correctly and they always do.

one thing I've been meaning to ask again but haven't.  when using fireftp to upload to archive I only get about 70-80kbs upload (my max is 130+kbs).  when uploading to other ftp sites I get my max.  when using fillzilla I get my max so it's something about fireftp and archive.  I still prefer fireftp and generally do the uploads over night so not a huge deal but I want to know what's going on.

sorry I think I do remember what was going on.  when creating item on the archive page I was accidentally putting a . in the name.

example

dbt2009-01-30.ak40.flac16

I was simply copying and pasting my folder name in the item name (Rest of identifier spot) then moving dbt to the name, the date to the date etc.  well under Rest of identifier I was leaving the . before  ak40.flac16.   the client/archive didn't like that.

What's recommended when you need to delete files ?  The FTP or HTTP interface ?

If you need to delete one or two files, HTTP works fine, but it's horrible for deleting multiple files. Use FTP for that.

If you need to do a re-derive on a show, best to PM me or email etree@archive.org - there's a one-button tool that admins can use to do that. Not sure why it's not available to end users. :-\
