Okay so I can't for sure label this a formal comp but thought some folks might find it useful.
My bread and butter rig is DPA 4023 > Lunatec ACM V3 > 744t
Anytime I am only running one set of mics I will record digitally out of the V3 (utilizing the ACM mod) as well as run analog out of the V3 into the 744. So I end up have two sources with the only difference being the A/D section. When tracking I also will process and FLAC both sources for my own archives and will usually seed whichever source I prefer. 99 out of 100 times to my ears its the ACM V3 version.
As another board member was considering an ACM modded V3 I sent him the following file (379 MB):
http://www.filedropper.com/acmv3compfiles
For the basis of this comp I just took some tracks from four different shows at four different types/sizes of venues to give some idea as to the sonic differences between the two A/D sections.
Nothing source-wise is hidden. I labeled each track so you know what is what. If you'd like to pick the method of this comp/test apart have at it as I don't care and don't profess this to be anything other that two different A/D sections.
Love to some hear thoughts.

Thank you! I've wondered what it sounded like.
-
YMMV:
Wowzers! I'm shocked by how different the a/d's sound. For the big PA sound of 1,2 and 4 I prefer the ACMV3. For source 3 I prefer the SD a/d. For whatever reason the SD seems looser when used on the larger venues and tighter on the small venue.

the Panic sample in particular:
I caught two things;
1) Bass seemed to have more impact and more refined on the ACM. I won't go to say that it sounded louder, just those two.
2) Top end was marginally more spitty on the 744. Symbols moved slightly to the right/diffuse on the ACM? I only caught it a couple of times and had to pick my examples specifically to do so.
I compare the two differences to the difference between setting up at true ORTF and setting up with 108 degrees. Makes a difference, but I'm talking in tiny differences.

These samples were a huge help to me in my quest. I agree the differences aren't all that obvious unless you listen on a really good system. They were enough to sway me in the direction of the modded V3 for sure.

no sooner did I link this in another thread but I discovered the link was dead.
Any chance we could get a track from something put up again?

Id be down to hear this too!

Pretty please? With all this talk of the v3's ADC, vs. ACM V3, I would LOVE to hear this comp ;)
