Need Underwater Camera Options Advice

hey all,
i am going on a cruise in late march and will be doing the snorkel and scuba thing for the first time. i would like to be able to take a camera underwater with me. canon makes a waterproof case for my digital, but it is like ~$160
http://www.techonweb.com/products/productdetail.aspx?id=B19093&src=FG
and i would hate to have it destroyed if the case leaked. i have seen underwater 35mm ones for less than that.
http://www.waterproofcameras.com/
and i have even seen disposable ones for ~$10.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004TWM6/002-9908665-8318432?v=glance
I cant see why i would want to really spend a bunch of coin on this bc i cant even conceive when the next time i would do this type of thing again.
does anyone here have experience with underwater photography? and advice?
thanks,
JR

JR,
I have a Canon Sure Shot A1.

Solid 35mm camera for recreational snorkeling/boating use. I have seen them at KEH used for 100- 120. I prefer something like this to a housing, because as you said, I'd hate it if it leaked. The canon is also usable on land- some underwater ones aren't. I have no personal experience with the Sea-Life's you linked to. Now, if you want to go all the way, you can't beat a Nikonos with a 20 and a 28mm lens, and offset flash.
I'm happy with mine.
