Super Clamp + 396B-3 articulating arm + Rapid Adaptor = Win
The 396 >= 099 to me but otherwise thats the same setup I use.
I have a standard FOB stand, a 396 arm, and a 9' normal stand. On the clamp side, I have a super, a nano, and a joby. I'm missing a rowi-clone and a bigger C-clamp which would round out the functional models but have only run into one or two situations where I'd have really wanted a rowi (mostly for tables where I need the 396 as well). I really should pick up a C-clamp, we have a venue in town which we can use one in the ceiling but you need a C-clamp.
I know I can clamp and use an extension at all of the venues where I normally tape. I throw the stand in the backseat when I go to a new venue, but I usually end up finding a place to clamp. I think the stand has only been used outdoors this year. Not having to block the legs of a tripod has been a great stress reliever for me.
The arm and the FOB stand get used about equally as I'm doing a lot of taping where I run solo anymore and may not have access to a clamp spot (railing, ledge, rafter beam, etc). I havn't used my bigger stand in almost 2 years though, even at festivals but I, so far, refuse to sell it since I can think of the occasional situation where I'd need the additional height. I've thought about getting the heavy duty bendy arm that Skalinder uses, or maybe the 099b pole that scoobie et al use to compensate, not sure if I thought that would be better or not.
