wouldn't they be the same as the TLM170r's in Card position?

From reading around it looks like the TLM193 is more inline with the TLM170

I have a pair and have used them with much success for outdoor shows.  Indoors, not so much.

Two examples:

Dan at NYCTaper runs a set of TLM-102's on occasion.  We taped side by side at Mountain Jam last year and I think his Phil & Friends pull with them was great, one of the best of that set.  You might want to reach out to him for his personal opinion but a handful of his 102 recordings are here, most of them matrixed with a board feed so you unfortunately won't be getting the "pure" Neumann sound. > http://www.nyctaper.com/tag/neumann-tlm-102/

Edit to add: Ha, you posted while I was writing mine up, Dan!

I was thinking they might nicely compliment the 150's for 4 channel.

I think the ones Dan uses are excellent mics, especially good outdoors. Side by side I have preferred them to Schoeps and MBHO. Also they have a nice small form factor for LDs.
Mics: Schoeps MK4V, MK41V, MK5, MK22> CMC6, KCY 250/5, KC5, NBob; MBHO MBP603/KA200N, AT 3031, DPA 4061 w/ d:vice, Naiant X-X, AT 853c, shotgun, Nak300
Pres/Power: Aerco MP2, tinybox v2  [KCY], CA-UBB
Decks: Sound Devices MixPre 6, Zoom F8, M10, D50

H2O, I'm trying to understand your question. I think you may have gotten some of your information a little wrong. The TLM 170 uses the K 89 capsule originally developed for the U 89. Size-wise, it's somewhere between what's usually called large-diaphragm (e.g. U 87, U 47) and what's usually called small (e.g. KM anything). The TLM 193 is the single-pattern (cardioid only) microphone that uses this capsule.

But the TLM 102 uses a new, large-diaphragm capsule that isn't used in any other type of microphone, and it doesn't resemble the TLM 170 or its relatives sonically.

The capsule is also somehow shockmounted internally as well if I understand what Ive read correctly.

Thanks David,

I was about to post exactly this.

The TLM 102 is a great little mic. for the money (and many prefer it to the TLM 103), but it's certainly no TLM 170.

The TLM 102's capsule is actually a glued capsule (this keeps the outside dimensions down, while maximising diaphragm area) and the back is actually a PCB.

I corrected myself in the post a few minutes after I posted the question - I guess I wasn't clear enough

The TLM170 does not resemble the 102 as you all pointed out - and the TLM193 is more in line with the TLM170
