I put the small screens on first, then mount the mics to the bar.
Out of the game … for now?

been borrowing and now in the process of buying a schoeps Kwon DIN bar and the shoeps A20 S shock mount.  The kwon bar will fit the 4023's but I dont think it will with the 4022's but not sure on that.  If I use the dpa mount thats ORTF or x/y I still need the shock mount, I just love the easy of the schoeps din bar with the shock mount.    sheffield

Is that schoeps bar a safe mount for the 4023s?  the 4023 connectors dont lock.  If your stand got hit hard, couldn't the capsules come off the connectors?

I always used the ORTF mount that grabbed the capsule body.   I never really felt like the lemos were seated tight enouhg to use them as a mount point.

We need tapermark to put his laser cutting skills to work on a DPA DIN bar.

my lemo connectors lock with easy in the Kwon din bar, never had a problem snapping them in, it also is a tight fit so it would take a hell of a hit to pull one loose.    sheffield

yep, you gotta mush the screens together to fit.

I use a single standard vocal mic type windscreen which pops over both mics and pulls securely and snugly onto either the straight up XY bar or the XY/ORTF bar no problem.  Doesn't offer spectacular wind protection but it definitely has done the job for the few times that I run XY.  You could likely double up if you wanted to run in a more windy open environment.  Looks like it's a screen designed for Shure Ball type vocal mics:

I've only run XY once (indoors with the small windscreens) and didn't really like the results.  I put the windscreens on b/f strapping the mics into the bar.  I use the DPA ORTF/XY bar and DPA shockmount.  ORTF has treated me well; I would be interested in a DIN setup though (which I really liked when I ran MBHOs).

what do y'all use for screens in windy environments when running 4022's ortf (with the dpa cxo4000 mount) and also when using the csm4000 shock mounts?

i'm currently using a pair of dpa ua0896 screens but they don't stay on the caps very well, with either the ortf/xy combo mount or the dpa shocks.  there isn't enough of the cap exposed past the mounts for the screens to get a secure hold and they fall off from even the slightest bump to the stand.

I have used the smaller DUA0020 DPA windscreens with some home-made dead rats that came with the mics--still got a little wind noise.

I ran a bluegrass festival last weekend with the larger DPA windscreens (not sure of the number) In similar conditions, they worked much better than the small windscreen / dead rat combo. I'm thinking of getting dead rats made for the large screens as well.

I have used both windscreens in both of the holders/mounts you mentioned with out any problems. With the CSM4000 you have to push the mic all the way up so the rubber mount is on the very back of the mic body. Mine stay on fairly good, but I'm still considering putting rubber bands around the windscreens for added security.

It might be possible to get some dead rats made with two tabs of Velcro out the back that could go around either style mount to hold the whole works together.

I also use the ua0896, maybe you can push em' on a little deeper? I have never had one fall off before.
